LA PUERTA DEL SOL, It is one of the most touristic and famous squares in Madrid.  It is construction started in the XVIII century and one century later it was finished. You will find here la estatua del oso y el madroño and km 0. It is the meeting point for protests and demonstrations and Spaniards have lived here some important events such as the Proclamation of the Second Republic.

ROYAL PALACE: It is the official residence of the King of Spain, though they do not live there. It was inaugurated in 1755 and it is an architectural style classic and baroque. It impresses you whenever you look at it. You can visit it for free from Monday to Thursday evening from 18 to 20 h from April to September and from 16 to 18h from October to March.

ALMUDENA CATHEDRAL:  The King Alfonso XII ordered the building in 1883. It is the most important church in Madrid with a neoclassic style. If you want to visit it you must know that you can do it for free from 9 am to 9 pm every day.

You have to pay 6 € if you want to visit the dome, the museum, the sacristy and the chapterhouse: Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 14:30 pm.

Jubilados, pensionistas, estudiantes, discapacitados, grupos con reserva, desempleados, familias numerosas,  y vecinos de Madrid con documento acreditativo: 4€. Recomendamos subir sólo si queréis ver el museo  ya que la cúpula no es ni espectacular ni las vistas  son maravillosas.

Pensioners, disabled, students, groups with reservation, unemployed, large families, and neighbors of Madrid with supporting document: 4 €. We recommend paying only if you want to see the museum since the dome is not spectacular and sights are not that wonderful.

Priests, religious and seminarians have free admission.

CIBELES SQUARE: It represents the Goddess Cibeles on a carriage thrown by lions. It is the place where Real Madrid football club and the Spanish football team celebrate victories.

CANOVAS DEL CASTILLO SQUARE (NEPTUNO): The fountain of Neptune is a neoclassic monument that occupies the central place of the square, is surrounded by incredible buildings built between the XVIIIth and XIXth century. It the sculpture represents Neptune, god of the seas clutching a trident while riding on a car thrown by horses with tail of fish. It is an emblematic place for the supporters of the Athletico de Madrid football club, is where “colchoneros” celebrate theis victories.

CUESTA DE MOYANO: Close to the Botanical Garden, communicating the roundabout of Carlos V and Retiro Park (door of the Ángel Caído).  It is a street full of little shops full of ancient books.

BOTANICAL GARDEN: Pz de Murillo nº 2. It is a CSIC center of investigation that shelters plants of America, Europe, and the Pacific Ocean and a collection of bonsáis. It was founded by the King Fernando VI. Carlos III arranged it´replacement to the current location in 1781. It is opened for the public every day of the year, except Christmas day and the first day of the year.

REINA SOFIA MUSEUM: Calle de Santa Isabel 52, It is a contemporary museum of art of the XX century, one of the most important works that it shelters is “el Guernica from Picasso”

EL PRADO MUSEUM:  Paseo Del Prado S/N, It is one of the most important in the world, as well as one of most visited.

Some of the masterpieces that it shelters are: Los Fusilamientos de  Goya, el Jardín de las Delicias  del Bosco, las Tres Gracias de Rubens , las Meninas  de Velázquez , el Caballero de la mano en el pecho del Greco.

THISEN BORNEMISZA MUSEUM: Pº del Prado 8.is a museum which contains both modern and ancient pieces, from XIV  and  XV century until POP ART movement and the eighties with continuous temporary exhibitions of interest.

Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 to 19 pm

VISIT STREET SCULPTURES IN PASEO DE LA CASTELLANA Nº 40  (RUBEN DARIO TUBE STATION)

AZCA:  It is the financial district in the center of Madrid, its construction began in the seventies, some important buildings are:: Torre Picasso (157m) Torre Europa (121m),  Torres Kio, and Puerta de Europa (115m)  with an inclination of 15º.

GO UP TO  THE ROOF OF HOTEL ME:  It is a club outdoors located on the roof of the hotel.

VISIT “CUEVAS DE SANDRO” :  Caves of the XVI century, former file of the Holy Inquisition, re-turned into cocktail shaker. There are courses of shaker every Wednesday and  live music from the eighties every Saturday.

CARBALLO MUSEUM:  Cl Ventura Rodríguez 17, It shelters an ancient private art collection, archaeological objects and other antiquities.

CIRCO PRINCE THEATER: Ronda de Atocha  35.

NATIONAL LIBRARY: It is the warehouse of bibliographical heritage and documentary of Spain. It was opened to the public in 1712. The building is catalogued as good of cultural interest in the category of monument.

ENCARNACION MONASTERY:  Pz de la Encarnación 1. It was founded by the Queen Margarita de Austria, wife of Felipe III. The building construction started in 1611 and was finish in 1616.

Entrance is free from Wednesday to Thursday in the evening for EU citizens, residents and people with work license in this área and Latin Amercan citizens (with acreditation)

DESCALZAS REALES MONASTERY:

Pz de las Descalzas  3. Founded by Princcess Juana de Austria  in 1559.

TRAVEL BACK TO THE ¨GOLD CENTURY¨ AND TAKE A WALK THROUGH THE NEIBOURHOOD OF LAS LETRAS.

FRANCISCO EL GRANDE BASILICA; Pz de San Francisco s/n , in La Latina neighborhood , it possesses a majestic dome and there are exposed collections of paintings of  The XVII and XIXth centuries.

GOYA MUSEUM SAN ANTONIO DE LA FLORIDA CHURCH:  Glorieta de San Antonio de la Florida 5, Walls are decorated by Francisco de Goya and it shelters Francisco’s mortal remains since 1919.

NAVAL MUSEUM: Pº  del prado 5, One of the most important museums of the naval world.

LAZARO GALDIANO MUSEUM: Cl Serrano 122. Located in a former mansion the museum has an exquisite and heterogeneous collection of art that includes works of Goya, El Greco, Zurbarán, Murillo and El Bosco, besides ceramics, medals, weapons, ect … it also has a small set of British paintings.

SOROYA MUSEUM: It is the house of the painter, P º of the General Martínez Campos 37. It is possible to admire an enormous quantity of His most famous paintings. The painter lived in this house with his family.

LOPE DE VEGA HOUSE-MUSEUM: Cl  de Cervantes 11, It reproduces a Spanish house of the S.XVIIth century.

JUAN MARCH FOUNDATION: It regularly arranges exhibitions dedicated to international artists and artistic movements, mainly from the XXth century

HISTORY MUSEUM: Cl  Fuencarral 78. It is installed in the former hospice of Madrid, was builder during the reign of Felipe V  reign, between 1721 and 1726,it is a masterpiece of the Spanish Baroque, and it preserves important collections that show the evolution both, historical and urban of the development  of the city of arts, and the daily life and customs of people from Madrid its  collections of paintings, prints, cartography, furniture, arms, medals, drawings, photographies  Stand out.

VISIT THE NUMEORUS ART GALLERIES YOU CAN FIND IN MADRID

SAN ANTONIO  DE LOS ALEMANES CHURCH: Cl Puebla 22, It is a great example of the baroque in Madrid with interesting architectural elements, fresco paintings in walls. The construction began in 1624 and was finished in 1633. Fresco paintings are the most showy important element and cover all the walls.

The building is a magnificent example of the architecture made out of  iron of the XIX th century.

MATADERO DE MADRID: Pº de la Chopera 14, It is the former slaughter house of Madrid, a set of pavilions of Neomudéjar style, constructed at the beginning of the XX,th century. Nowadays it is a small city dedicated to the culture in different spaces. Opened for works, artistic practices, house of the reader, head office of design, pavilons for Spanish, for international music, …..
